There once was a boy named Jacques, who really did not care much for studying. He was a smart boy, gifted in the art of memorization and regurgitation, and this enabled him to get away with his last-minute cramming sessions for a long time. That is, until he decided to go to Medical School.

Always the overachiever, Jacques did not just set his sites on a medical degree. Instead, he decided to test the limits of his gifts and pursue his PhD and MBA, along with the MD. Inevitably, the method of study (i.e. cramming) that had gotten him so far began to break down under the deluge of information for which he was now responsible. So, he began to look for shortcuts.

Jacques read every book he could find on learning and memory, again looking for an alternative to traditional, time-consuming methodologies. He soon discovered many new techniques and algorithms that were truly effective, and this made him realize how foolish he had been all along. He realized that the objective shouldn't be to merely regurgitate information, but rather to fluidly and quickly grasp information that you actually understand and retain - and this was especially vital now that he was studying to become a doctor! He didn't want to shortchange himself any longer, so he began to think long and hard in order to figure out a way to speed up the learning process without compromising on the quality of the learning - to find shortcuts that do not shortchange. The stakes were becoming greater and he could no longer afford to forget the material a few days after the test was over, and neither could his patients.

When he discovered that there was not a product or methodology on the market that truly spoke to his needs, he decided to create one himself and being an avid technophile, he saw the computer as the ideal tool for implementing such a solution. He then combined the knowledge that he had gained as a neuroscientist, with his computer science background and melded that together with his practical experience as a life-long student in order to create EdWin™.

EdWin™ is the ideal learning product because it facilitates the two vital components that Jacques had been searching for - the memorization and the mastery. Previous products had simply addressed the memorization, meaning that they enabled students to commit a certain pattern to their storage banks. A student does not need to understand information in order to memorize it. For example, a person can lean how to pronounce each word in a sentence, but still have no clue as to what the words mean. This component will get you through a test, but it would not help you to retain the information that you've studied.

On the other hand, mastery is achieved through processing the information. Writing, and re-writing the information, sketching different perspectives and actually THINKING about the material - this is what enables a person to connect-the-dots and truly comprehend and retain what they have studied. Mastery means that the student has grasped the higher order patterns of a lesson. In other words - they really understand what they are being taught. Translation; EdWin™ helps students to actually "get it" - by enabling them to both master and memorize their lessons.

There are other quiz and testing applications on the market, but they take a different approach to test creation. Most of them make it extremely cumbersome to create your own exams, so instead they focus more upon downloading pre-established modules. This technique is limiting in terms of the content available and additionally, it fosters that same regurgitation technique that does not lead to a true sustained comprehension of the information - i.e. no mastery.

When you're in class, you can use EdWin™ on your Palm™ OS compatible handheld, or the EdWin Desktop Test Creation Tool on your laptop to take notes. After class, go over your notes and fill in any gaps that you may have left and as you have new ideas, include them in the explanation section of the program. Then, create a question that captures the idea in your notes. The process of creating the question forces you to process the information in order to summarize it. And, when you list the possible answers, you are forced to consider the nuances of the information and to truly understand what you are studying. You will achieve a greater mastery of the material, simply by going through EdWin's easy test creation process.

Once you have mastered the material, it is time to move into rapid review. It has been proven that if you see something 20-30 times, you are going to commit it to memory - think commercials, songs, etc. EdWin™ was specifically designed for the Palm™ OS, for this very reason. Unlike, a laptop, this mobile platform makes it easy for you to carry your questions around with you everywhere, so you can review your test material anytime. This way, you'll have no problem hitting that 20-30 repetitions that you'll need in order to memorize your information. And, EdWin™ has several features that help to speed up this process even more.

EdWin™ makes it easy to go through tons of materials in a short period of time by employing algorithms that help speed up the memorization process. Making this happen is not rocket science, it's just plain common sense and it works. EdWin™ allows you to go through your questions in random order. EdWin's depth mode allows you to create a strategic hierarchy to rapidly review questions in the most effective way possible. EdWin's cycle mode allows you to keep drilling yourself on the questions that you get wrong, until you get them right. Repetition, repetition, repetition is simplified by your ability to use the six buttons on the Palm™ as if you were playing a video game. EdWin's ability to speed up the memorization process is achieved through the sophisticated and innovative orchestration of simple algorithms. It just plain works - it worked for Jacques and it will work for you!

EdWin™ on your Palm™ device facilitates learning in a way that will amaze you. You will share in our excitement when you receive your improved test scores. Third graders are able to use Edwin™, so there are no excuses!

EdWin does have an animation capability and a game state engine already built in. Currently, the graphic capability is reserved for clients who work with us directly to create custom content on the EdWin platform. The next generation of EdWin will allow individual users to create their own animations that they can attach to each question. Until then, the individual user can create whatever text-based questions and exams that they can come up with. The Desktop Test Creation Tool helps speed up this process.

BrainMatriX is working with several publishing and test prep companies who want to port their content to the EdWin platform. BrainMatriX will be releasing a version of the Multistate Bar Exam on the EdWin platform in collaboration with one of the best Bar review companies.
